Department Fiscal Coordinator in Bangor, ME

Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 40 yrs, is seeking a full time (40 hours/week) Department Fiscal Coordinator for its Child Development Department. This position is currently available because of a recent advancement of a current employee. Based in Bangor, this position is responsible for oversight of the fiscal accounting work in our Child Development Department, as assigned, including such responsibilities as preparing and coding accounts payable, assisting in monthly allocations and audit preparation and assistance. In addition, the chosen candidate must become familiar with complex program contract regulations. This position works closely with the Senior Staff Accountant, Division Managers, as well as the Corporate Services accounting staff to ensure a smooth running and efficient fiscal operation. Expertise to work unaided and to adjust priorities to assist, as needed, in the duties of the office support team is essential.Requires a 2 year degree in accounting or 4yrs of related job background; 3 yrs background in a busy financial department; background in computerized accounting software; computer proficiency, including familiarity with spreadsheets and microsoft word processing software; and outstanding written and spoken communication abilities. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, previous accounting background in a nonprofit organization, and/or background with fixed asset accounting and reporting preferred.Penquis offers an generous benefits package and competitive wages.
